About Owen Paul
Biography / Discography
Owen Paul, legally Owen Paul McGee, is a Scottish pop-rock vocalist born in 1962 who achieved significant commercial success during the 1980s. After performing with Glasgow-based acts and discovering punk rock influences, he emerged as a recording artist with a cover hit that reached number three on the UK charts in 1986. Beyond performing, his production credits extend to international releases including work on rock albums.
Paul departed the music industry amid label disagreements in the late 1980s and remained largely inactive for approximately fifteen years. He returned to performing in 2002, shifting toward a more acoustic and folk-oriented direction. Subsequent albums including About Time (2002) and About Time II (2014) reflected this artistic evolution. His collaborations have included performances with Ex-Simple Minds alongside his brother Brian McGee and with established acts such as Mike + The Mechanics.
Recent releases including the 2020 single “Sleeping on the Same Pillow” featuring Lynne Johnstone demonstrate his continued work in folk and Americana styles. His discography spans multiple decades, from pop-rock foundations through contemporary acoustic and Americana recordings, with notable recent releases including the Acoustic 80s EP (2017).
