Placebo are a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal, who have remained the two constant members throughout the band’s three-decade career. The band rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with their distinctive blend of alternative and indie rock, gaining widespread recognition following the release of their 1998 album Without You I’m Nothing, which achieved platinum status in the United Kingdom and gold certification in France. The album spawned several major UK hit singles, including “Pure Morning,” “You Don’t Care About Us,” and “Every You Every Me,” establishing Placebo as one of the defining acts of their era.
Known for their androgynous aesthetic and Molko’s distinctive vocal style, Placebo have built a reputation for exploring themes of sexuality, mental health, and social alienation in their music.
