About Tartak
Biography / Discography
Tartak (Ukrainian: Тартак, meaning “woodsaw”) is a Ukrainian rapcore and alternative hip-hop crossover band formed in Lutsk in the fall of 1996 by Sashko Polozhynskyi and Vasily Zinkevich Jr. The group built a sound that fuses guitar rock, hip-hop and dance-music elements, and expanded its lineup in the following years with keyboardist Andrii Blahun, guitarist Andrii “Muha” Samoilo and DJ Valentyn Matiyuk.
Over more than two decades of activity, Tartak released a string of studio albums including Demo hrafichnyi vybukh, Systema nerviv, Muzychnyi lyst shchastia, Huliai-Horod, Slozy ta sopli, Opir materialiv, Simka and Vvichnist, together with dozens of songs and music videos. Two of the band’s singles were particularly successful on Ukrainian airplay charts, each holding a spot in the national Top 40 for well over two months. The band also performed publicly during the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine.
