About Chłopcy z Placu Broni
Biography / Discography
Chłopcy z Placu Broni (also known as Chlopcy Z Placu Broni) is a Polish pop rock band founded in March 1987 in Kraków by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Bogdan Łyszkiewicz. The group became known for straightforward, unpretentious rock and roll music with a positive message. After early festival success at Jarocin in 1987, the band achieved national radio success with their first hit ‘Aeroplan’ and followed with their biggest breakthrough ‘O! Ela’, which topped the Polish airplay charts for several weeks.
The band released their debut studio album ‘O! Ela’ in 1990, establishing themselves as fixtures at major Polish rock festivals including the Jarocin Festival (1988-1991), Rock Opolu (1988-1991) and the National Youth Scene tour. Subsequent albums included ‘Krzyż’ (1991), ‘Kocham cię’ (1993)—their most commercially successful release, selling over 100,000 copies—’Uśmiechnij się!’ (1996), ‘Gold’ (1998) and ‘Polska’ (2000). The band performed across Poland and in Polish communities in the United States during the 1990s, building a dedicated following through constant touring and a consistently evolving repertoire.
The band ceased active operations following Bogdan Łyszkiewicz’s death in a car accident on June 23, 2000. After a 15-year hiatus, the group was reformed in 2015 by surviving members Franz Dreadhunter and Wojciech Namaczyński in tribute to Łyszkiewicz and the band’s enduring catalog. The reformed ensemble continues to perform, including major concert appearances at the 70th anniversary of Nowa Huta in 2019. Available to book for festivals and special events.
