About Harlej
Biography / Discography
Harlej is a Czech rock band formed in Prague in spring 1995, with roots also in the city of Most. The group’s founding lineup drew members from earlier Czech rock acts including Alkohol, Brian, John Dovanni, and Kreyson, giving Harlej a hard-edged rock sound from its earliest recordings. The band is best known in the Czech Republic for a long, consistent touring and recording career spanning three decades.
The lineup changed significantly at the end of 2001, when three original members departed and were replaced by musicians formerly of the band Debustrol, including Martin Kolinsky and Martin Volak. From 2006 onward, vocalist Tomas Hrbacek, previously of the band Mash, became Harlej’s frontman. Over the years the band has released 16 studio albums and 3 DVDs, including the compilation Harlejland (2010) and the studio albums Mame vlka (2011) and Teleskopicky tele (2012). A live DVD recorded in Plzen in 2005 documented the final performances of the band’s original lineup.
In 2025, marking 30 years since its formation, Harlej released the double-CD retrospective Best of 30 let. The band has performed at major Czech festivals, including Votviraky, and remains an active touring act on the Czech rock circuit. Harlej is available to book for festivals, corporate events and private shows.
