About Reel 2 Real
Biography / Discography
Reel 2 Real was an American hip house duo consisting of producer and DJ Erick Morillo from New York City and Trinidadian rapper Mark Quashie, professionally known as The Mad Stuntman. Active from 1992 to 1997, the project achieved seven top 10 hits on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and defined the hip house sound of the early-to-mid 1990s with its infectious blend of house production and reggae-influenced vocal delivery.
The duo’s debut single “The New Anthem” reached number 1 on the US Dance Chart in 1992. However, Reel 2 Real achieved international recognition with “I Like to Move It” (1994), which peaked at number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in France and the Netherlands. The track was later featured in the 2005 animated film Madagascar. The duo recorded additional top 10 dance hits with guest vocalists including Barbara Tucker, Charlotte Small, and Proyecto Uno, before retiring the Reel 2 Real alias in 1997.
