About Tarkan
Biography / Discography
Tarkan Tevetoğlu is a German-born Turkish singer-songwriter and one of the most successful pop artists of his generation. Born 17 October 1972 in Alzey, West Germany, he moved to Turkey in 1986. Known for energetic dance-pop, he achieved international stardom with his 1998 hit ‘Şımarık’ and its English version ‘Kiss Kiss,’ which became a pan-European chart phenomenon.
Tarkan released his debut album Yine Sensiz in 1992 and rapidly built a discography spanning three decades: Aacayipsin (1994), Ölürüm Sana (1998), Karma (2001), EP Dudu (2003), Come Closer (2006), Metamorfoz (2007), Adımı Kalbine Yaz (2010), and Ahde Vefa (2016). His albums achieved platinum and gold certifications internationally, with combined sales exceeding 15 million copies.
Throughout his career, Tarkan won four Turkey Music Awards, six Golden Butterfly Awards, and one World Music Award. Known in the press as the ‘Prince of the Bosporus,’ his cultural impact has been compared to Elvis Presley’s effect on 1950s America. Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun called him one of the finest live performers ever.
