About La Bouche
Biography / Discography
La Bouche is a German-American Eurodance duo formed in 1994 by producer Frank Farian. The group’s original lineup featured vocalist Lane McCray and singer Melanie Thornton, both previously members of Groovin’ Affairs. Positioned as a club-oriented electronic pop act, La Bouche became one of the defining voices of 1990s Eurodance and achieved significant commercial success in the international dance music market.
Signed to Farian’s MCI Records label, La Bouche released their debut album in 1995, which yielded the international breakthrough hit “Be My Lover.” The single became a defining track of mid-1990s dance music and propelled the duo into mainstream prominence. Throughout the mid-to-late 1990s, they released a catalog of dance-oriented singles marked by a signature blend of upbeat production, infectious melodies, and visually distinctive music videos that helped define the club culture aesthetic of that era.
La Bouche achieved their commercial peak through the late 1990s and early 2000s, with sales exceeding 12 million records worldwide and multiple MTV Video Music Award nominations. Following Melanie Thornton’s death in 2001, Lane McCray took a hiatus from the project. La Bouche was revived in 2007 with a new lineup of female vocalists, including Kayo Shekoni, continuing the act’s presence in the Eurodance and electronic dance music repertoire.
