About Whigfield
Biography / Discography
Sannie Charlotte Carlson, professionally known as Whigfield, is a Danish Eurodance and pop singer born in 1970. She rose to prominence in the early 1990s following her breakthrough with the single “Saturday Night”, which became an international hit in 1994. The track achieved significant chart success, reaching the top five in Italy and charting across multiple European markets including the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and Denmark.
Working extensively with Italian producer Larry Pignagnoli while based in Italy, Whigfield developed her distinctive Eurodance sound that defined the mid-1990s European pop scene. Beyond her signature hit, she released several other charting singles including “Sexy Eyes”, “Another Day” (which peaked at number three in Italy), and “Think of You”. These tracks further established her presence across European charts and helped build a dedicated fanbase.
Whigfield’s commercial peak included a December 1995 UK Top 40 single, after which she gradually stepped back from the spotlight. She has occasionally returned to perform and record, participating in Denmark’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix competition in 2018. Her work remains influential in 1990s Eurodance and pop culture, representing one of the defining voices of that era.
