About Basshunter
Biography / Discography
Jonas Erik Altberg, known professionally as Basshunter, is a Swedish DJ, singer, record producer and songwriter born December 22, 1984 in Halmstad. Since beginning music production at age 17, he became known for bass-heavy Eurodance characterized by hard dance, hard trance and melodic vocal arrangements. His 2006 breakthrough single ‘Boten Anna’, initially self-released online, was downloaded over one million times within two months and reached number one in Sweden and Denmark after signing with Extensive Music and Warner Music Sweden.
Basshunter released five studio albums: The Bassmachine (2004), LOL (2006), Now You’re Gone – The Album (2008), Bass Generation (2009), and Calling Time (2013). His 2007 English-language single ‘Now You’re Gone’ became a major international breakthrough, reaching number one in the United Kingdom for five weeks and becoming the first Swedish number-one single in the UK since ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’. The single sold over 1.2 million copies in the UK and was certified double platinum. Other notable singles include ‘All I Ever Wanted’ (UK #2, platinum-certified) and ‘Please Don’t Go’, a cover of the KC and the Sunshine Band classic. By 2009, Basshunter had sold more than 3 million records according to Swedish sources, and as of May 2024 was the 60th most-streamed Swedish artist on Spotify with over 803 million streams.
Beyond recording, Basshunter has written songs for other artists including El Capon, Mange Makers and Lana Scolaro, and has remixed tracks for notable artists. His accolades include a European Border Breakers Award, multiple international music awards and nominations for Grammy Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and BT Digital Music Awards. He has performed at numerous international festivals and tours across Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, and appeared on television programs including the British reality series Celebrity Big Brother (2010) and various European music and game shows.
