About Capella
Biography / Discography
Cappella, also known by the spelling variation Capella, is an Italian Eurodance group formed in 1987 in Brescia by producer Gianfranco Bortolotti. The act achieved significant commercial success in the early 1990s, becoming a prominent figure in the Eurodance movement with their distinctive blend of synthesized melodies, house rhythms, and dance-oriented production.
The group’s biggest hit came in 1993 with “U Got 2 Let the Music”, which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Other notable singles include “U Got 2 Know” (1992, No. 6 UK), “Move On Baby” (1994, No. 7), “U & Me” (1994, No. 10), and “Tell Me the Way” (1995, No. 17). The group released four studio albums: U Got 2 Know (1992), War in Heaven (1995), Cappella (1998), and a greatest hits compilation in 2005. Throughout the 1990s, the project was fronted by various singers and rappers brought in for live performances and promotion, though many vocal performances were based on samples from other artists.
Following their initial disbandment in 1998 and a brief 2004 resurgence, Cappella returned in 2013 with a reconstituted lineup. The group embarked on a new musical phase beginning in 2022 with further membership changes, releasing their first original single in nearly twenty years, “Happy Phonk”, in October 2023, and continuing to perform at 1990s revival events and festivals across Europe.
