About Joy band
Biography / Discography
Joy is an Austrian Euro disco band formed in 1984 in Bad Aussee by Andreas Schweitzer, Alfred Jaklitsch, and Manfred Temmel. The trio achieved international success with their debut single ‘Touch by Touch’ (1985), which topped the Austrian national charts and achieved gold status in Portugal and Spain. ‘Valerie,’ their second major hit, reached No. 3 on Soviet music charts in 1987 and became popular across Eastern Europe, while ‘Hello’ and ‘Japanese Girls’ further expanded their European audience.
Joy’s early success included multiple album releases: Hello and Joy and Tears (1986) and a self-titled work (1989). Their impact extended to Asia through an extensive 1987 tour drawing over 60,000 spectators across Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, and Taiwan. Following lineup changes in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the original trio reunited in 2010. They subsequently released Enjoy in 2011, which charted at No. 21 in Austria, and In Love in 2021.
Joy continues performing at retro-themed music festivals throughout Europe, Russia, and Asia, including Moscow’s Diskoteka 80-x festival and Estonia’s Viljandi Retrofest. The band is available to book for festivals, corporate events, and private shows.
