About Bad Boys Blue
Biography / Discography
Bad Boys Blue is a German pop group formed in Cologne in 1984 by producer Tony Hendrik and his wife Karin van Haaren. The group has operated under various line-ups since its inception, with British vocalist John McInerney becoming the primary lead singer throughout much of the band’s history. The group is best known for their international hit singles of the 1980s, including “You’re a Woman,” “Come Back and Stay,” “I Wanna Hear Your Heartbeat,” and “Pretty Young Girl.”
The original trio featured Trevor Taylor from Jamaica as the initial lead vocalist, John McInerney from the UK, and Andrew Thomas from the United States. While Taylor departed in 1988, McInerney’s emergence as lead vocalist solidified the band’s commercial trajectory through the remainder of the 1980s. The group experienced numerous personnel changes throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including members such as Trevor Bannister, Irmo Russel, and Kevin McCoy.
A significant split occurred in 2005 between McInerney and Thomas, with each continuing to perform under the Bad Boys Blue name with different configurations. McInerney’s version remained the primary touring act, while Thomas formed an alternative lineup. The group has remained active with re-recordings and touring in subsequent decades, releasing the anniversary albums “25” in 2010 and “30” in 2015, and continuing to perform on the international festival and touring circuit.
